Personal media preferences/career:
How did you get into the media industry?
I started in student marketing after graduation at my university SU: selling stalls at the freshers’ fair, as well as newspaper ads and digital screens around campus. It was very much learning by doing — talking to local and global businesses, from Domino’s to Newton Consulting, figuring out what they needed, and trying to make the media we had feel useful to them.
What is your favourite medium and why?
Print. I know that is very FT of me, but I do think there is something different about it. You spend more time with it, it feels more intentional, and you remember it differently. Print renaissance soon come!"
Favourite media brand?
The FT. Biased, again, obviously, but I like media brands that people actively have to choose to spend time with. There is a real value in being part of someone’s routine rather than just appearing in front of them.
What’s is your favourite ad campaign?
Recently. - Forest: £1 Rides. I love Forest. Bringing back the £1 Fish Man to sell £1 e-bike rides is exactly my kind of campaign. It is silly, useful, very London, and the offer is instantly clear. No overthinking - just a good price, a familiar internet joke, and a reason to ride.
How do you think the media industry is going to change over the next five years?
I think we will get a bit more honest about what actually works. There has been so much focus on targeting, speed and scale, but I think attention, context and trust will become more important again. AI will make lots of things faster, but good judgement will still be the difference.
A bit about you :
You want to impress a new client – which restaurant do you take them to?
Crisp. Mostly because getting a table there is almost impossible, so if I have managed it, it proves I have really thought about the meeting.
What is your favourite fashion brand and why?
Lazy Oaf. I like that it is playful, a bit odd, and does not seem too bothered about being tasteful in the traditional sense. I have a pink cat puffer jacket that I've had from them for 5 years, and it has never not had a compliment!
What is your favourite film and why?
Inception. It is one of those films that is still fun to argue about afterwards, which is usually a good sign.
What are you listening, watching or reading at the moment?
I’m reading Mortal Talks, which is probably my philosophy and theology degree showing. I’m also watching Dark on Netflix, which is similarly light and relaxing, obviously.
Do you/the company have a popular local café or bar?
For coffee, Rosslyn is always a good shout!
